ASK DR. SCHELLING

DEAR DR. SCHELLING,

What can I do to keep my dog entertained during the day? Over the summer there was always someone home with Copper but now that the kids are back in school and with both my wife and I at work I worry that she will feel neglected and bored.

-Sedentary Dog Owner

Dear Sedentary Dog Owner,

There are lots of things you can do to make Copper's time at home alone pass more quickly and pleasantly. You can do something simple like take your dog on a walk prior to going to work or get in a good play session. This will help remind your dog she's still important and it may tire her so she'll nap most of the day while you're out.

Here's an article that offers several steps you can take to keep Copper entertained and relaxed, not bored or stressed, while the rest of the family is out of the house: KEEPING YOUR DOG HAPPY, ACTIVE, AND ENTERTAINED WHILE YOU AND YOUR FAMILY ARE AWAY.

Dear Max,

I am always busy during the holiday season with work and spending extra time with friends and family. As much as I enjoy all the hussle and bussle, I worry that my dog is being left out. How can I show him that he's still my main furry four legged man?

Max's Mini-Reviews

MERRY BONE : This holiday bone toy is ultra soft, so soft I almost don't want to bite it—just kidding! Of course I want to play till I'm too tired to keep my eyes open and then use this plush toy as a cuddle buddy.

CRINKLE CANE : This toy is so cool, instead of a squeaker it crunches when I bite it. I can't get enough! There is something about the sound of the crinkle material inside of the cane that just gets my tail wagging.

DOG FACT
Dogs have twice as many muscles to move their ears as humans do.

TO QUOTE:

"In order to really enjoy a dog, one doesn't merely try to train him to be semi human. The point of it is to open oneself to the possibility of becoming partly a dog."
