ASK DR. SCHELLING DEAR DR. SCHELLING, I have a big handsome dog just like Max. This morning we were playing fetch like we always do and he was very tired when we finished. He was coughing and breathing very hard. I don’t know if I should be worried or if he just had an off day. -Fred |

Dear Max, I like to let my dog run off-leash at the dog park. But when I call him, he thinks I'm playing a game and runs the other way. I have to chase him like mad to him to get him back. How can I stop this behavior? It's embarrassing, frustrating and most of all, I'm worried for his safety. Once he almost ran into the street! –Casey … … … … Dear Casey, The problem you describe is extremely common, I’m sorry to say. The COME command is probably the hardest one that we canines have to learn. Why would we want to stop the incredibly fun things we’re doing to come running to our humans? Because our lives might depend on it, that’s why! Click here to learn why you might be having trouble teaching your dog to COME, and what you can do about it. |

Max's Mini-Reviews CHARMING BALLOON JUNGLE TOYS : These jungle themed toys turn backyard playtime into a safari adventure! They look like balloon animals but they sure won't pop at first bite. These squeaker toys are my new favorite thing to play fetch with. DRINKWELL 360 FOUNTAIN : I love water. It used to be particularly fun to snag a drink from the garden hose when my humans were watering the plants outside. To keep me away from the hose (and its not-so-healthy contents), my humans got me my very own water fountain. The fountain gives me a continuous stream of cool water just like the hose outside but it's all mine! Even better: The fountain holds a lot of water, so no matter how thirsty I am, I know I can count on a cool drink. That's not all! The filter in the fountain rids the tap water of any bad tastes and odors before I lap it up, so my water is always clean and fresh. |
