ASK DR. SCHELLING DEAR DR. SCHELLING, Last weekend my dog was vomiting, a lot. I was very worried but luckily there is an emergency vet clinic near my home and I was able to get her the care she needed. This emergency got me wondering about what could have happened if I wasn't able to get her into the clinic. Do you have any tips on first aid for dogs? -Wanting To Be Prepared |

Dear Prepared, It is great that you were able to get your dog the care she needed in an emergency. Although there is no substitution for a licensed veterinarian when it comes to a sick or injured pet there are some basics that all dog owners should know when faced with an emergency situation. Dear Max, I was in the backyard with my human just doing my thing sniffing and what not, when I found this really cool looking toad. Before I could get any closer and check the little guy out I found myself locked up in the house. What gives? I wasn't going to eat him... well maybe I wasn't. –Buddy … … … … Dear Buddy, The same thing happened to me! At first I was upset, it's my yard after all but then I found out that some toads can be poisonous. So it is likely that you weren't being punished just being well cared for. |

Max's Mini-Reviews BOW OW FIRST AID KIT : This is the ultimate doggy care kit—and I am all about being cared for. The first aid kit contains everything a prepared human needs for cuts, bites, ears, scratches and much more. I feel more free to explore now that I know my humans have a first aid kit handy—just don't tell them. HEEBIE JEEBIES : Heebie Jeebies is no ordinary toy. I love its four squeakers, to me, the more squeakers the better! My humans like that the toy is stuffing free. I tend to get a little overzealous with my toys and can sometimes leave a trail of stuffing in my wake. But with no stuffing there is no messy clean up for my humans which means more playtime for me |
