ASK DR. SCHELLING

DEAR DR. SCHELLING,

My dog had a bladder infection earlier this year. My vet gave me some antibiotics to use and it got better right away. But now the symptoms are back. She’s asking to go out all the time and even passed some blood. This morning she peed on the rug. What’s going on?

Dear Tiffany,

Bladder infections are a common problem in female dogs. I’d consult your veterinarian again. A simple infection will usually clear up right away with proper treatment. Did you give the antibiotic exactly as prescribed and for the correct length of time? Incomplete treatment is a common reason for relapses. Otherwise, your dog may have an underlying problem that needs to be addressed, such as bladder stones. Click here to learn more about bladder problems in dogs.

Dear Max,

I've caught my dog drinking out of the toilet. It's so gross! Why does he do that?
